test shots (music studio session 1)

After previously looking at the way photographer 'John pesina' presented and shot his work on 'Jonathan Terrell' and the way he showed him in the studio and then out on stage with the crowd I took it as inspiration when heading to the studio. The studio is where I want to capture the majority of my shots as its the place where my subject creates his music and my project is on the DIY production of music, I also shot there because I feel I can capture raw emotion when he is rapping into the mike and when music is being produced. I also wanted to focus on capturing a sense of my subjects flare which I think is a important aspect of my project. Here is the contact sheet I have created after shooting with my subject in the music studio, I am very pleased with how they came out as the lighting in the studio was very good which allowed me to get some nice photos. Editing process

This is my first of my six final images for the project, for this photo I spent a while trying to get the perfect lighting to get it showing my subject infection to what he's doing, so as you can see I have played around with the levels just to make it a bit brighter so you can have a more clear view of my subjects face. This photo you can see I have shot with a flash so you can see the enjoyment my subject is having as this was during one of his recordings so you are able to understand how involved my subject is. I also included the microphone as well as the studio in the background. You can also see I have turned the exposure down because initially this photo was too bright. This photo was very difficult to shoot as  I was shot from an outside angle and at the time it was dark so I had to adjust the shutter speed to achieve what I hoped would look like my subject being lit up whilst the engineer is in the studio. The way in which I want to shoot my images is in a set of 6 portraits the reason for this is after reading bate's work on portraiture I feel this is the best way to get a full visual representation as bate's describes portraits as being an 'identity' that can be depicted through the photos. As you can I have chosen the artist 'Joel Knight' as research for modern portraiture, shot in a studio as in this weeks session we are experimenting we will be experimenting in the studio working with different lighting and seeing if I wanted to shoot my final images in a studio environment.  This portrait on the left by Joel Knights is a perfect example is what I'am trying to achieve in the studio in todays session as it has nice lighting that highlights the subjects face showing their key features.
