Editing process

Image
This is my first of my six final images for the project, for this photo I spent a while trying to get the perfect lighting to get it showing my subject infection to what he's doing, so as you can see I have played around with the levels just to make it a bit brighter so you can have a more clear view of my subjects face. This photo you can see I have shot with a flash so you can see the enjoyment my subject is having as this was during one of his recordings so you are able to understand how involved my subject is. I also included the microphone as well as the studio in the background. You can also see I have turned the exposure down because initially this photo was too bright. This photo was very difficult to shoot as  I was shot from an outside angle and at the time it was dark so I had to adjust the shutter speed to achieve what I hoped would look like my subject being lit up whilst the engineer is in the studio. I have made the photo a bit darker in photoshop so

studio day 2 (shooting for final images)

Image
So today is my last day shooting in the studio and its where I intend to shoot the majority of my photos. This time after entering the studio I got this homely vibe and I began to understood this is their place of work and even though everything is scattered about they know where everything is, in todays shooting session I wanted to focus on capturing my subjects facial expression when he is glued into working on songs and also his passion when he is on the microphone. Below you will see my process of elimination to decide which photos I will use for my final images. When analysing I will be focusing on the aspects that follow the them of my project, which is mainly focusing on the uniqueness of my subject and the passion that strives him to make music for his fans. Contact Sheets 01/01/2019   Above you can see I have created a contact sheet of all the photos I shot in the studio, I will now be making a smaller contact sheet of potential images I will be using for my

Brighton Photo Biennial 2018 visit (reading week)

Image
I visited the 'Brighton Photo Biennial' today which is a festival that occurs where there are free exhibitions for a month, below I have done a brief artists research however as the theme was 'A New Europe' I didn't find anything relevant or inspiring for my project. On the left is 'Heather Agyepong's' project called 'Habitus: potential realities' she produced a series of 12 self portraits exploring the potential of British values after Brexit. She wanted to photograph a comedic yet serious element on what the future ,might hold in new Europe. I did however not find this relevant to my project only interesting as a whole and something I may involve in the future.

test shots (music studio session 1)

Image
After previously looking at the way photographer 'John pesina' presented and shot his work on 'Jonathan Terrell' and the way he showed him in the studio and then out on stage with the crowd I took it as inspiration when heading to the studio. The studio is where I want to capture the majority of my shots as its the place where my subject creates his music and my project is on the DIY production of music, I also shot there because I feel I can capture raw emotion when he is rapping into the mike and when music is being produced. I also wanted to focus on capturing a sense of my subjects flare which I think is a important aspect of my project. Here is the contact sheet I have created after shooting with my subject in the music studio, I am very pleased with how they came out as the lighting in the studio was very good which allowed me to get some nice photos. I tried to get the light only showing my subject as it highlights his emotion when he is rapping and i

portraits / studio work / composition

Image
The way in which I want to shoot my images is in a set of 6 portraits the reason for this is after reading bate's work on portraiture I feel this is the best way to get a full visual representation as bate's describes portraits as being an 'identity' that can be depicted through the photos. As you can I have chosen the artist 'Joel Knight' as research for modern portraiture, shot in a studio as in this weeks session we are experimenting we will be experimenting in the studio working with different lighting and seeing if I wanted to shoot my final images in a studio environment.  This portrait on the left by Joel Knights is a perfect example is what I'am trying to achieve in the studio in todays session as it has nice lighting that highlights the subjects face showing their key features. And after reading David Prakël's reading on 'composition' I learnt that 'composition is the process of identifying and arranging the elements to produce a

My Subject (Lemuel unaji)

Image
My subject's name is Lemuel Unaji and he is part of a band called 'Studio 32 Oke' which is located in sevenoak's, its called studio 32 as the studio is located in lem's house and his door number is 32 I have planned a visit to go and get some test shots which I can use for my proposal. Im also hoping that I will be able to use one of the test shots to go towards my final images as the studio perspective is key in my project to portray how he has his own space in which he creates music. The band is built up of a small group of friends who met and university and then Lem explained he had a studio in which he produced his own music, the Band then leaped on this opportunity and formed 'Studio 32 Oke'. In the photo above Lem is in the centre wearing the all red tracksuit after meeting Lem for the first time I could tell he was a talented individual with a lot of flare, this is one of the main reasons I chose him for this project as he is a perfect example of so

DIY Production of music / Artist research (John Pesina)

Image
I have decided to continue my project using 'Olivia Rose' as my main inspiration and focusing on a unique individual and capturing his originality in my final images, the path I have chosen to go with is the 'DIY' production of music and how its allowed our generation to create their own music. This has spawned new genres of music and allowed anyone to set up shows and create music, however only certain individuals have enough flare and spark to form a fan base that will follow and attend the musicians shows. Although its impossible to predict when exactly the 'DIY' production of music first began its certain that its extremely popular now,  it could even date back to prehistoric times that our ancestors would tap things together to make music and sounds. However I wanted to focus more on the studio as its a more modern platform of creating music. Bands such as: 'The Beatles' and 'The rolling stones' were the pioneers of studio space as the
