Article research and reading exercise

This was the first bit of text I was asked to analyse, it is a snippet from 'David Bate's' photography theory - this specific text speaks about how photography is overlooked in peoples everyday life, he uses an example of an image of a cow being on a milk carton and how that is not considered artistic statements, however the image being portrayed on the carton has been put there to create an image of the cow being as bate's says 'healthy' this is an example of idealised photography used in most cases of advertising to make things more attractive to the consumer. However is some cases it is better to put the harsh truth in a photo apposed to the ideal photo, most charities will use photos of sick children who they are trying to aid. Now while this may be uncomfortable for some people look at it also brands that image in peoples heads as it is showing the brutal reality.

'Nobody Else Even Knows' is a article by 'Bridget Jones' she photographs peoples personal interior spaces. when I first looked at these images they seemed quite plain however after reading the article her objective was to capture spaces that were important to the people who owned them as to anyone else these photos wouldn't mean much but everyone has their own space similar to what she has photographed. A place you go to 'escape' as 'Smith' puts it. The photo above is labelled 'Fishermen's hideout' and as you can see the places look worn out and old and what 'Smith' is trying to show is that it is the dedication and commitment of people to one another and their 'chosen passion'.
In conclusion I think 'Smith' was trying to show that there is more that meets the eye with these photos as once you read in to what they are you discover there is a whole story behind each photo.
